The Ultimate Guide to Newborn Photography In Stowe Vermont

When I’m working with parents to plan their newborn photography in Stowe Vermont, they typically ask how they can prepare for their session. This is a big deal—the kind of session you’ll be reminiscing about for years. So of course, you want to feel your best and be totally ready to soak it all in. At the same time, you just had a baby! Your body is recovering and trying to make sense of everything, and most likely, that new bundle of joy is not giving you much sleep at night.

As a mom myself, I know all about the haze of the newborn weeks. My goal is to make your session as easy as possible so you can have those gorgeous memories without having to stress too much. If you’re wondering how to prepare for your newborn photography session in Stowe, I’d love to give you a quick rundown so you can go into your session feeling totally confident.

The Ultimate Guide To Newborn Photography in Stowe Vermont

1. Prepping for Your Newborn Session

You don’t have to worry about everything being perfectly styled before your Stowe newborn photography session. I want you to focus on things that will make you feel great. Find clothes that are comfortable and easy to move around in. There’s a reason why you see so many moms wearing flowy maxi dresses in their newborn portraits!

I totally get it—running on little sleep, rocking that “dry shampoo for the third day in a row” look, and maybe even wearing a little surprise spit-up on your shirt. If you want to book a professional hair and makeup session beforehand, go for it—treat yourself! My biggest tip for parents? Feed your baby right before the session. A full belly = a happy, sleepy baby, which makes for the dreamiest photos!

When I arrive, we’ll take a little time to chat. My goal is to make you feel comfortable from the start. Then, I’ll grab my gear and get set up in the nursery or the main bedroom if you don’t have a nursery. No need to stress about prep—I bring everything I need, so you can just sit back and soak in those newborn snuggles.

Worried your house isn’t camera ready? Please don’t even give it a second thought. We’ll be hanging out mostly in the nursery, and I promise I’m not here to judge the dishes in the sink or the laundry pile giving you side-eye. With some thoughtful styling and a little photographer magic, we’ll focus on what actually matters—your beautiful new baby.

2. During the Session

For my newborn photography sessions, I like to start out with just the baby. During this time, the parents and the siblings can finish putting on the final touches. If you have toddlers, this is the perfect time for a mess-free snack! Once I get all the pictures of your little one, it’s time to start incorporating other members of the family. We’ll get pictures of each individual with the baby: mom, dad, siblings, and the whole gang. I can also pose your furry family members so no one is excluded.

No need to stress about posing during your session—I’ve got you! My job is to gently guide you into natural, relaxed poses that feel like you—nothing stiff or awkward here. Think soft smiles, cozy snuggles, and gazing down at your sweet baby… which, let’s be real, you’re already doing nonstop anyway!

3. After the Session

Once your newborn photography session is done, I’ll go home and edit your images until they’re perfect yet authentic. Then, I’ll send over a link to your online gallery that includes a custom slideshow along with your finished images. You’ll be able to download your images directly from the gallery and you’ll also have access to an online print store. I give you a print credit – kind of like a coupon – so you can print your photos and show them off.
